Border agents found over two tons of marijuana hidden in a shipment of jalapeños crossing into Laredo this week.
A tractor-trailer crossing the World Trade Bridge into the U.S. on Tuesday was stopped for a secondary inspection by a border officer who smelled something fishy, according to the Customs and Border Protection agency.
Using an imaging scan and a drug-sniffing dog, inspectors found 1,341 packages of weed, or more than 5,000 pounds, peppered into the … peppers.
That much marijuana has a street value around $1 million, authorities said.
It’s unclear what became of the driver or where the shipment was headed. The agency turned the investigation over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
