Cabazon dinosaurs might get a cannabis dispensary for a neighbor – Press-Enterprise

Do THC and T-Rexes mix?

Cabazon might find out.

An Inland cannabis dispensary chain wants to set up shop fewer than 1,000 feet from Cabazon’s two iconic dinosaur statues, which are visible from the 10 Freeway and have appeared in movies like “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.”

An unincorporated area between the San Gorgonio Pass and Palm Springs, Cabazon also is home to Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa and the Cabazon Outlets shopping center. The statues, a Tyrannosaurus rex named Mr. Rex and an apatosaurus named Dinny, are currently painted to look like Fred and Dino from “The Flintstones” in celebration of Halloween. The dinosaurs’ looks change, depending on the season.

The statues’ owner opposes the dispensary, and in August, the Riverside County Planning Commission voted 4-1 to recommend that the Board of Supervisors deny the project. But Tuesday, Oct. 19, the board unanimously rejected the commission’s recommendation and tentatively approved the dispensary, which is due back before supervisors Nov. 16.
