Can you take too much CBD?

As The Effects And Benefits Of Cannabidiol become known, can you take to much CBD?

CBD Oils

FDA warnings aside, CBD oil is considered by many medical professionals to be among the safest of natural supplements. No known cases of overdose have been attributed to CBD.

Although there was one claim that an infant died after being given CBD, the infant in question was quite ill, to begin with, and many experts suspect that an overdose of CBD was not the cause of death.

Nonetheless, when it comes to CBD oil, too much of a good thing can actually reduce CBD’s effects. In many cases, CBD exhibits what is known as a bell curve response. What this means is that it works best within a certain range of dosage. Below a certain dosage, effects will be minimal. Above the ideal dosage, you might not experience additional benefits. And in some cases, certain effects can even begin to diminish above a certain dosage.

Studies have shown that CBD is usually well-tolerated at high doses. However, when experimenting with a product that can have unintended consequences, it’s always best to start small and work your way up.

For a full-grown adult, five milligrams might be considered a small dose. And in most cases, it won’t take more than 25 or 50 milligrams to notice some effects.

Unless you’re treating a serious disease (in which case you should be using CBD under a doctor’s supervision) you should probably stick with dosages under 150 milligrams.

One exception to that rule is acute pain. Patients suffering from acute pain as a result of an accident or surgery are oftentimes prescribed narcotic-based pain killers. These pharmaceuticals can come with severe side effects and the potential for addiction and even sudden death.

Assuming CBD oil produces the same or similar amounts of pain reduction, a larger dose of CBD is probably a better choice than taking opioids even though it might make the patient drowsy or lightheaded.

Let’s end by saying that the statements in this article should not be considered medical advice. This information is merely intended to offer some entertainment value spotlighting the potential side effects of CBD oil and how to avoid them.

If you decided you would like to treat a medical condition with CBD oil or you want to use CBD oil as a dietary supplement on an ongoing basis, it’s important that you do your homework and that you include your doctor or other health care provider in on your decision.
