Police arrested four men in connection with at least three armed robberies in Eugene this year that began with the robbers offering to help their victims get involved in Lane County’s marijuana industry.
Eugene Detective Jed McGuire said Wednesday that Antonio Ramone Vizcaino, 26, of Austin, Texas; Jorge Marcus Rubio, 33, of Eugene; Shawn Kyle Dunaway, 36, of Veneta; and Marcus Cerone Cox, 35, of Eugene all were arrested in the past week.
Dunaway and Cox were arrested Friday in Eugene after a police chase on River Road, Detective Rick Lowe said.
Vizcaino and Rubio were arrested Monday in Southern Oregon and brought to the Lane County Jail on Tuesday morning.
McGuire said the “robbery crew,” as he called them, first came to police attention after a March 7 robbery in a hotel room at the Best Western New Oregon on Franklin Boulevard. Hotel staff called police after finding duct tape, zip ties and blood in a recently vacated hotel room.
Police later discovered through their investigation that the two male victims, who had considered at least Rubio to be a friend, had flown to Eugene from Texas to sell pot to Rubio and Vizcaino at the hotel, McGuire said.
The two Texans had been treated to dinner, but when they arrived back at the hotel, they were tied up with zip ties.
