Mt. Zion village trustees hear presentation of proposed dispensary – WAND

MT. ZION, Ill. (WAND) — Bringing a dispensary to town. That’s the question up for discussion Monday night.

Several people attended the special board meeting. But, there was a lot of unanswered questions from village board members.

A representative from Illinois Health and Wellness gave a presentation to trustees.

They discussed the impacts of bringing a dispensary to the village.

That included the economic boost it would bring.

Village Administrator Julie Miller talked with WAND News before the meeting and shared the reason behind the special board meeting Monday.

“We’ve been approached a lot over the last five years and we believed that it was time to have a public discussion about it and see where it goes from there. said Miller.

Now if the proposed dispensary is approved, the village would not have to change any ordinances.

That is because the village did not prohibit or restrict cannabis business when the state approved regulations back in 2019.

There was not a vote taken Monday night. The village board is scheduled to meet again during their regular scheduled meeting July 17th.

No word on where the proposed dispensary would be located.
