AMARILLO, Texas – A man from Liberty, N.Y., was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana after a traffic stop in Texas.
A Highway Patrol Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety stopped a 2010 Ford F-150 heading east on Interstate 40 near Conway around 2:45 p.m. Thursday for a traffic violation, according to a news release from the department. Police did not say what the traffic violation was.
A police dog was called to the scene, and the trooper found multiple vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana inside boxes wrapped as Christmas gifts, the release said. Police said they seized 70 pounds of marijuana, worth approximately $424,000.
The driver, Serena Inda of Missoula, Mont., and the passenger, Teik Mullen of Liberty, N.Y., were allegedly taking the drugs from California to Liberty, N.Y.
Both were charged with felony possession of marijuana.
Mullen, 41, was released from the Carson County Jail in lieu of $22,000 bond.
