Democrats from across the state met in Fort Worth this past week for their state convention and continued their previous stance of supporting the legalization of cannabis.
Nearly 7,500 delegates passed the party’s entire platform on a voice vote, concluding efforts by activists and the Texas Cannabis Caucus to push cannabis reform among a generally receptive crowd. The caucus was well attended again this year with the help of Texans for Responsible Marijuana Policy.
The party’s top two state-wide candidates, Lupe Valdez, who is running for governor, and U.S. Representative Beto O’Rourke, who is polling closely to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, have been supportive of both medical cannabis and legalizing marijuana. Valdez expressed support for the issue during the primary back in January, while O’Rourke has been an outspoken supporter during his time in office.
