UPDATE: Texas Wesleyan University has fired baseball coach Mike Jeffcoat after he sent an email saying that Colorado players have failed drug tests in the past, and the university doesn’t “take a chance” on students from the state.
Officials with the university says the termination was due to the email and an ongoing investigation into NAIA violations.
A Texas college baseball coach is in hot water after an email he sent to a high school baseball recruit from Colorado went viral.
Gavin Bell, a senior at Cherokee Trail High School in Colorado emailed dozens of college coaches asking about playing at the next level.
Mike Jeffcoat, the head baseball coach at Texas Wesleyan University, responded to Bell in an email, saying that Colorado players have failed drug tests in the past, and the university doesn’t “take a chance” on students from the state.
In the email, Jeffcoat also states “You can thank your liberal politicians.”
The university has confirmed that Jeffcoat sent an email to Bell, and released the following statement:
