Big Gas Dispensary, first licensed marijuana shop in Ulster County, opens in New Paltz – The Daily Freeman

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – A retail marijuana shop is set to open on Wednesday in New Paltz, marking the first legally licensed spot shop to operate in Ulster County.

Zymia Lewis and her husband, Kareem Haynesworth, both of Middletown, own Big Gas Dispensary, which was ready to open Wednesday at the former Stewart’s Shop, 98 North Chestnut St. in New Paltz. The shop is set to have a soft opening on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and then will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Lewis said.

Big Gas Dispensary began selling marijuana products as a delivery service in 2023, Lewis said in a telephone interview Tuesday, before officially opening the 2,600 square-foot New Paltz retrial shop.

Lewis said the couple were elated to become the first licensed dispensary owners to open a shop in Ulster County.

“We are excited, we are really excited,” Lewis said. “When we first started doing our research . . . New Paltz was one of the top locations where we wanted to be.”
